Although Violent Crime has not quite increased 3% over the 15 year period, the Prison Population growth has exploded -up 1429% !!!!!

I attribute the incarceration explosion to 3 contributing factors:
1. Overcharging and over sentencing – nonviolent offences are given maximum sentences and the parole boards rarely if ever release anyone after they complete their fixed time. It is not uncommon for people to receive a 10+ year sentence for a first DUI. P. Turney got 15 for his first DUI – no other parties received any serious injuries.
2. Idaho targets drug users rather than distributors. In most states Courts hand out relatively low sentences for users and possession of small amounts of drugs. Instead they focus on distributors and manufacturing. Idaho on the other hand uses incarceration as their primary means of drug treatment.
3. A completely inadequate public defense system coupled with a highly aggressive state and county prosecutors. The Christopher Tapp story tells it all.
Unfortunately if tax payers are duped into believing the overcrowding “problem” can only be solved with more prisons, Idaho’s incarceration rate will only get worse.

My son is in prison in idaho and has hep c and they are treating only the ones who gets an attorney well I love my son as any mother does and I want him to live so I need help to get him a the treatment he has begged them for it
